A few days ago, I wrote – with tongue firmly planted in cheek – of my consternation at having to say good-bye to my jar of petroleum jelly which has served my dry-lip needs for a whopping 24 years!
Not wanting to depart with my old and faithful friend, I was saddened by the thought of having to throw him away. Such a noble visage and rare vintage! Notice the name “Furr’s.” This is a New Mexico-West Texas supermarket franchise which has struggled for most of its history. In fact, my jar of moisturizer far outlasted the Las Cruces, New Mexico, store I purchased it in, that establishment never making it into the new millennium.
On the night I wrote the blog, Sunday, July 15, 2018, I swiped the jar for the final time before finally laying it to rest. Its replacement is the rather unimposing jar you see next to it. I began the new era of lip protection the following evening.
Though his purpose has passed, my Furr’s jar of petroleum jelly will remain on my bathroom counter here in Orlando, Florida, serving as a pleasant reminder of the 22½ wonderful and life-transforming years this New York City -native spent in the “The Land of Enchantment!”

Thank you, Maxine. I gambled by churning out a Part 2 for this trite topic, but people seemed to like it.

Yes sometimes a more personal small and light post just shows we are human like anyone else!

It’s half the size! That means it’ll only last you 12 years! 😉

Hmmm…got me thinking about what I’ve been holding onto. I have a special bag of dirt that I brought back from my first trip to Armenia, 1978. Not to sound morbid, but someone can throw it on my grave when I die! Even older, I still have my Lonely Lisa doll, got it in 1964. Well, thanks for the fun detour!
