I know, I know. When it comes to God, Hollywood hasn’t exactly fallen over itself to exalt the Creator of Heaven and Earth.
However, quite a few movies have endeavored to bring glory to God and/or His Son, Jesus Christ. Most of them go back quite a bit in time, though this century has seen a rise in God-glorifying productions. Because I love movies from the “Golden Age” of Hollywood, my favorites go quite a ways back. Here, in order, are my top 10 God-glorifying movies:
- Ben-Hur (1959)
- Chariots of Fire (1981)
- Jesus of Nazareth (1977, TV miniseries)
- The Passion of the Christ (2004)
- A Man for All Seasons (1966)
- The Robe (1953)
- Quo Vadis (1951)
- Samson and Delilah (1949)
- Brother Son, Sister Moon (1972)
- The Ten Commandments (1956)
I’d love to hear what your favorites are. You can list as many or few as you see fit. Please share on either the bottom of this post, or on Facebook, for those of you who linked to this post from there. Thanks!

The movie “The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel is definitely a “goodie”!

Hi Bruce. I read the book (several times), but did not see the movie. Who stars in it? Just kidding. Thanks, Bruce.

I loved “The Nativity Story.” I watched it last Christmas with a Muslim family, and to my surprise their 4-year-old not only was interested, but she also asked questions non-stop, and I got to relate the whole Christmas story.
“The Perfect Stranger” series is interesting, too. The first one is called “Dinner with a Perfect Stranger.” It’s dialogues between Jesus and unbelievers.

Both sound very interesting, especially the one about Jesus having discussions with unbelievers. And praise God for the opportunity you had to watch “The Nativity Story” with a Muslim family … what a witness!

Hi David, another fine post. I have not seen all those movies but your top two are favorites of mine. I’m listing these true, inspiring movies that spark the faith and courage I often lack:
Hacksaw Ridge, Alone But Not Alone, Robber of the Cruel Streets, Beyond the Next Mountain, Romero, For Greater Glory and The Hiding Place.
Thanks for asking – might go back and see these again!

Great list, Lisa Beth! I definitely need to check out the movies on your list which I haven’t seen. The two I did see are incredible: “The Hiding Place” and “Beyond the Next Mountain.” Have a great 2019!
