President Trump is Right About Iran

Ramping Up
Unlike past U.S. leaders, President Trump is taking the rogue government of Iran seriously. (Please note that I specifically said “government”; this editorial in no way reflects upon the people of Iran, for whom believers should be vigorously praying.)

After long contemplating the very real danger Iran posts to Middle East peace as well as to the existence of our ally Israel, the President has dispatched the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Middle East “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime,” National Security Adviser John Bolton announced.[1]

According to Bolton, this ramping up of U.S. military power is due to “a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings” on the part of Tehran.[2]

This is an understatement. The government of Iran hates the United States and would love to see it obliterated. But Iran’s acrimony toward the U.S. pales in comparison to its utterly satanic abhorrence of Israel. Iran would never simply settle for a complete Muslim takeover of the Holy Land; once that was accomplished, Iran would see to it that every Jewish Israeli was slaughtered with no mercy offered.

Though Iran is vocally conspicuous in its enmity toward the Jewish homeland, it is also a major player behind the scenes, amply financing terrorist groups which vow to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

President Trump’s willingness to stand up to the malevolent rulers of Iran is a welcome development and should be lauded by Israel’s supporters.

A Long Time Ago
Iran’s sable-rattling, of course, is nothing new. It all goes back to antiquity.

Though the history of Iran reaches almost as far back as Creation itself, Iran – previously called “Persia” – gets most of its attention in the Book of Daniel. We first meet Persia in Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a giant statue (which depicts “the times of the Gentiles” – Luke 21:24). There, Persia, aligned with the Medes, is the chest and arms of silver.

Later, in Chapter 7, Daniel has a dream of four beasts: a lion – Babylon; a bear – Medo-Persia; a leopard – Greece; and a powerful beast beyond description – the Antichrist’s coming kingdom at the end of the age. These are the four “beast” kingdoms which have harbored a satanic hatred for the nation of Israel. The four represent Israel’s persecutors, those who would love to exterminate Israel.

But the biblical account was then, what about now? Witness one of the most fascinatingly obscure passages in all of Scripture. In regard to the “beast” kingdoms, Daniel tells us that, “The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time” (Daniel 7:12, emphasis added).

In other words, these nations would diminish in power for centuries before one day rising again. This is exactly what happened. Iraq (Mesopotamia, Babylon), Iran (Persia), and Greece (Syria[3]) for centuries had been third-rate nations with little importance on the world stage. However, as the time of Israel’s “rebirth” in 1948 came closer to fruition, so did the re-emergence of the “beast” nations, in precise accordance with prophecy.

They’re All Back
And now they’re all back: Iran, Iraq, and Syria – and all as ferocious as ever. The passing centuries have not satiated the beasts’ appetites for Jewish destruction. Though the world has advanced in every area of existence since the days of antiquity, the basic nature of the “beast” nations remains the same.

As entities (though many individuals living in these nations would disagree with their governments’ position against Israel), they remain fully committed to their satanically-mandated hatred of Israel.

As we rush to the end of the age, the world needs to be aware of these nations’ ancient heritages, and that these heritages are alive and thriving. There is no doubt that the beast nations have returned to the limelight, just as the Bible says they would. Indeed, the beasts are roaring, flourishing in the Middle East, and are ready to pounce. And if you want to know just how much longer we have until Christ returns (the general timeframe, that is), then keep a conscientious eye on the Middle East.

In the meantime, I’m thankful that President and his administration are taking steps to combat this wicked regime. President Trump is certainly right about Iran!
