This Is What Awaits the West

Proper Context
Whenever applying Scripture, it is important to note context. For instance, Old Testament passages regarding ancient Israel must be interpreted in that setting first, and then one may determine if a modern-day application can be made.

Such is the case with one passage I recently read, Ezekiel 9:9-10 (God speaking):

The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. They say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.’ So I will not look on them with pity or spare them, but I will bring down on their own heads what they have done.

If you have read the entire Old Testament, you will see that this passage has been fulfilled. Israel’s sin was great, and God severely punished her. The question now is: Would it be proper to apply this precisely-targeted passage to the modern-day West? Do these same truths hold true for the United States, Canada, Western Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand?

For me, the answer is “Yes!”

Breaking it Down
Let’s look at the first phrase: “The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice.”

As an American citizen, can I insert the word “U.S.” into this sentence? Let’s see: “The sin of the people of the U.S. is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice.”

I indeed can. The U.S. is drowning in bloodshed. Since 1970, we have performed more than 47 million abortions.[1] Since 2000, more than 300,000 murders have been committed within our borders.[2]

And, of course, the biggest sin committed by America (and all Western nations) is the ever-growing denial of God. Atheism continues to fester in the U.S., and we’re still way behind Western Europe in that area. We’re doing our best to blot God out of existence, and we’re succeeding! God-hatred is growing in every sector of society – particularly in government and the entertainment industry – and it shows no sign of slowing.

God’s Nature
So though Ezekiel 9:9-10 applies specifically to Israel, it gives us insight into God’s nature, which never changes. God hated the sin of ancient Israel; He hates all sin of all time. God hated the bloodshed perpetrated by ancient Israel; He hates all bloodshed of all time. God hated the injustice committed in ancient Israel; He hates the injustice committed of all time.

Therefore, does it not make sense that God will punish modern-day nations in the same way? It does. Will not God withdraw His pity from such nations and “bring down on their own heads what they have done”? Yes, He will.

God cannot be mocked; what the human race sows, the human race will reap (Galatians 6:7). God severely punished ancient Israel, and He will do the same to the West today. A time is coming when God will go to war with Planet Earth. That time is called the “Day of the Lord,” and it will be frightening and fearsome.

There is no turning back, the West – and the entire world, for that matter – has gone too far. The Day of the Lord is drawing near, and the words of Ezekiel 9:9-10 will come to fruition. This is what awaits the West.

However, there is good news for individuals. Those who bow the knee to Jesus Christ will be spared of God’s wrath, and will spend blissful eternity with Him: “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Confess His Name now and be saved!
