A Soaring Passage
If you were to adopt such a practice, which single verse or passage of the Bible would you read every day for the rest of your life? You no doubt have a favorite, but what I am suggesting is a verse or passage guaranteed to elate your spirit no matter the circumstances.

For me, that passage is Philippians 3:20-21:

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

A brief look at this soaring passage will justify its choosing.

Citizenship in Heaven
Citizenship is usually determined by country of residence. Yet, this passage clearly tells us that the Christian’s citizenship IS in Heaven, present tense; your heavenly citizenship is “right now.”

This means that from the moment you submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ, you were guaranteed that your eternal life would be spent in Heaven. Physically, you are not there now; your heavenly ascension is future. However, with God there is no time – no past, present, and future – therefore, everything simply is; your heavenly citizenship is a done deal.

Here’s an example. In 2001, I moved from New Mexico to Florida. Two weeks before the move, I secured an apartment in Orlando. Though I returned to New Mexico for a short time, I nonetheless had a home in Florida. I wasn’t there yet, but I was guaranteed to go. It was a done deal; I had only wait for the right time to depart. Such is the situation with you and Heaven. God has already secured your place there, you are guaranteed citizenship; it’s just not yet time to go.

I hope this truth thrills your soul! This world is a very bad place, so much so that Jesus will return one day to rid it of its evil, you NOT included! You are a citizen of Heaven, not Earth, and very soon Jesus – who resides in Heaven – is going to come down here to take you to be with Him. That’s a truth worth reading every day!

Everything Will Be Under Christ’s Control
Technically, everything is under Christ’s control, as Colossians Chapter 1 tells us. However, Jesus has given Satan a limited realm of authority and is allowing him to wreak havoc upon the earth. But when Christ returns, He will set all things right (Philippians 3:21). He will establish first His Millennial (1,000-year) Kingdom, followed by the eternal state, which will both be on a restored planet earth (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:10-13; Revelation 21:1). At that time, the earth will be a paradise (Isaiah 11, 60-62, 65-66; Revelation 20-22).

When Christ reigns for 1,000 years, peace will rule because everything will be under His control. Now, on fallen Earth, there is murder, rape, bloodshed, disease, famine, sickness, corruption, hatred, cruelty, and godlessness. But when everything is under Jesus’ control, “They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9).

Paradise awaits you, and it is eternal; Jesus will see to it. That’s a truth worth reading every day!

Your Lowly Body Will Be Made Glorious
Think of the most pain you ever experienced, or ever witnessed a loved one experience. Heartbreaking, wasn’t it? What about now? How are you feeling? What’s happening with your body? If you are young and strong, you’re not feeling it as acutely. But what if you’re a little older? I’m 62 and I’m feeling it. My body is decaying. Your body is decaying. As Pink Floyd sang, “The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death.” It’s true.

But remember, for the Christian, death is only for the physical body. The spirit lives on with no loss in consciousness (Luke 23:43). Until Christ returns, our spirits are bodiless; after He returns and establishes His kingdom, we will be given new bodies: “… [Jesus] will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory.”

Authors have attempted to describe in detail the bodies we will inherit, but the Bible doesn’t. The main thing to remember about your new body is that it will be immortal, and therefore perfect, indestructible, and eternal. So again, I must declare, “This is a truth worth reading every day!”

A Momentous Daily Read
Let’s read Philippians 3:20-21 again:

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

As the world grows darker and darker the nearer we come to Christ’s return, this breathtaking passage is an affirmation of who and what you truly are: a child of God redeemed by the blood of Christ whose home is now in heaven, who will live forever under the control of Christ, and whose perfect, indestructible, eternal, and immortal body is waiting to be claimed.

Reading this passage daily will give you the spiritual lift you need to enjoy your day and serve Christ to the fullest. Philippians 3:20-21: Don’t begin your day without it!
