I Hate Change!
I’m a creature of habit, and I hate change! I like the “sameness” of life, the routine. Yes, there was a time when I was excited about new challenges, but at this stage of my sojourn, I pretty much like things the way they are.

Which, of course, the Covid-19 pandemic does not allow for. Life has changed drastically because of it, and it is taking some getting used to. Please don’t see this as complaining, because it certainly isn’t. While people are suffering because of this plague, I feel more than fortunate that I am healthy, as are my loved ones and everyone I know.
And though I enjoy working from home – and I really do – it’s just, well, different. Being cooped up, I really don’t have to shower every day, though I do. And, being a guy who lives alone, my clothing requirements extend no further than a t-shirt and skivvies, though I wear gym shorts. (TMI! My apologies.)
But more than anything, this epidemic has changed society in ways we have never seen, and it can be both disheartening and disconcerting. And adding to the discombobulation many people around the world are feeling, is the strong possibility that things will never return to the way they were before the Coronavirus.
Yes, these are extraordinary days we are living in, and though change is always a part of life, this kind of drastic, dramatic, and breathtaking change is not the norm. We could soon be looking at the times in which we live as “Pre-Covid-19” and “Post-Covid-19.”
God Never Changes
However, for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, there is a Solid Rock upon which our faith is based, a Solid Rock which won’t change; a Solid Rock which is the only solid entity in the universe.

The God we worship is that Solid Rock, and He never changes. Of course you know this, but I imagine a few reminders from Scripture are always welcome:
- Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
- Malachi 3:6: “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”
- Numbers 23:19: “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
- James 1:17: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
- Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
- Psalm 119:89: “Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.”
- Psalm 102:27: “But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
- Psalm 33:11: “But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”
- Lamentation 3:22-23: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
A Done Deal
When you are feeling ill at ease or suffering from a case of trepidation, keep these verses in mind. Remember that God has made numerous promises to us, the greatest of which is eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ.
No matter what happens, our everlasting existence is a promise made to us by our unchangeable God, and therefore a “done deal.” Let us rest securely and gently in the overwhelming reality of this truth, even as this passing Earth falls apart around us.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”!

Amen, David! I agree with everything you have said. I was talking to my mom earlier and I was most certainly complaining and lamenting. I will spare you the rant on here but i will blog on what I learned from God convicting me. Thank you David for this!!!

I believe God is shaking us out our sameness to see a golden opportunity for outreach. My church went virtual and now our posted services are getting over 700 views each. We are reaching more people because we were forced to broadcast instead of meeting

I, too, am much a creature of sameness. In the case of our largely autistic household, it’s a welcome friend! So…needless to say, this situation is challenging on so many levels. But, indeed, great is His faithfulness. I am witnessing His mercies daily, even hourly, as are my loved ones. I agree with Bruce there, this is an opportunity to reexamine our hearts, how we share Christ, and where our priorities lie. Thanks for this truthful, encouraging word, David. Amen, the storms of life are continually changing, but God remains the same. He is consistent and reliable. He is your anchor. You can count on God because He never changes.
