I was stopped at a long light on my way to work this morning and was greeted by a pleasant sight as I looked down at my dashboard. Fortunately, I had enough time to pull out my phone and capture this 50,000-mile milestone.
Of course, 50,000 miles is no great shakes, but as a lover of the Lord Jesus Christ, it gave me the opportunity to thank God for His gracious provision. Since 1988, I have had 3 cars, and the Lord has given the first 2 long lives. I look forward to Him doing the same for this one.
I purchased my first new car, a Mazda, in 1988. Living in the spaciousness of New Mexico, I amassed 275,000 miles on that one in just 9 years (1988-1997). The day I hit that milestone, I said out loud, “I’m going to make it to 300,000 miles!” That night the engine died as I pulled into my driveway. So much for prognostication!
I then purchased another new car, a Honda Civic. That car lasted 19 years (1997-2016) and gave me 225,000 miles, including my move from New Mexico to Florida.
When “Old Faithful” finally had had enough, I purchased my current Hyundai Elantra on December 16, 2016. It had just 7,300 miles on it. Because I don’t drive nearly as far as I did in New Mexico, I have averaged less than 10,000 miles a year on this one, and I pray it too will have a long, healthy life.
So thank you, dearest Lord, for your gracious provision regarding my driving endeavors!

Hi David, When our children were young, and we were in the car driving somewhere, we used to call them “magic numbers”, say for example it read 33,333.33 miles etc. The kids would cheer. Those were the days, it takes a whole lot more to get them to cheer now, but God does provide! Racking up those kinds of miles on a car is nothing to sneeze at. Wishing you and your car many miles to come! Blessings.

Thank you, Bruce. And you’re right, when I looked at the 50,000, I didn’t sneeze!

David, that was definitely some impressive mileage on those first two cars! We can praise God for His provision in all things. I’ve been a lease guy the last few cars and I’ve been able to stay under 10K miles per year, but it will be close this year being down to one car for the two of us.

They charge $.35 for every mile that exceeds 30,000 miles after three years.

Lol. Gotta keep an eye on my wife’s mileage. I have the car Friday thru Sunday commuting to/from work. Monday thru Thursday she’s like a bird out of the cage!

So … blaming the wife, huh? Well, it’s certainly none of my business! 😊😂

Lol. Some people just don’t care about a trivial little thing like a $4000 penalty for excess mileage accumulated on shopping trips.

Spectacular David on your cars but only after I realised it was ML’s and not KM’s 😆

While I have never driven my car over the 200,000 miles mark, perhaps my 2015 Honda Civic will do the trick. I might be blessed with driving this car for many years to come since it hasn’t cracked 80,000 yet.
