The Antidote for the World’s Noisy Nonsense

Fed Up!
Though I keep a general watch on politics, I don’t delve into it wholeheartedly; I follow just enough to be minimally informed. And, unless really stoked, I rarely write about politics – there are enough people who do that, whether they know what they are talking about or not.

Though I try to keep my distance from in-depth politics and not get too vexed by it, I must admit that what is going on here in the U.S. is wretchedly out of control. The left has gone completely off the deep end, and the right is too often graceless and compassionless. Contempt emerging from both sides – Christians included – is as vile as I’ve ever seen it in my 60 years, and there is nothing to indicate things will improve.

The world is being choked, inundated, and brutalized by the noisy nonsense that fills national and international media outlets. I for one am fed up with it, and I would wager good money that most of you reading this are as well.

The Antidote
Fortunately, if you belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, you know – or should know – that there is a glorious antidote for this world’s noisy nonsense, a day when the venom and vitriol will be vanquished, and replaced by something far, far better.

This “day” I speak of is a period of time, a 1,000-year span, to be exact. This time is known as the Millennium, and is spoken of primarily in Isaiah Chapter 11, and referred to often in the Old Testament. It is a time when Jesus Christ will rule the world and order will be restored.

The term “Millennium” is a combination of two Latin words: milus, meaning “thousand”; and annum, meaning “years.” The concept of this Golden Age which is to come upon the earth permeates Scripture, particularly the Old Testament; it is in Revelation Chapter 20 where the actual time frame of 1,000 years is revealed (six times, in fact).

The Glorious Passage
What of the character of the Millennium, or Millennial Kingdom? How will it differ and provide a sanctuary from the shrill lunacy of our current fractious age? In what way will residents of the Millennium (including all Christians past, present, and future) find refuge and escape from the idiocy, hatred, and destructiveness all around us?

One glorious passage in particular provides the answer, and that is Isaiah 32:15-18. Referring to that era as a time when “the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,” Isaiah informs us that at that time:

… the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,

and the fruitful field is deemed a forest.

Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,

and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.

And the effect of righteousness will be peace,

and the result of righteousness [will be] quietness and trust forever.

My people will abide in peaceful habitation,

in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Your Choice
I suppose if you are inclined to politics and really thrive on it, you can choose to dwell on what it is producing today, that being some of the terms used above: contempt, vileness, brutality, nonsense, venom, idiocy, hatred, and destructiveness.

However, if you’d rather focus on what lies ahead – when Jesus rules – I give you the terminology of the above glorious passage: fruitfulness, justice, righteousness, peace, quietness, trust, security, and rest.

For me, this is a pretty easy decision to make; I choose the latter, that is, God’s way as opposed to man’s way. In the vitriolic noisy nonsense of our day, I take great comfort in what lies ahead. This era of contempt and venom will soon give way to the era of righteousness, peace, and rest, and I can’t wait! I choose to focus my energy on the work of Christ’s Kingdom and let others fight the worldly battles which will, ultimately, mean nothing on the day our Lord returns.
