I know this is rather nitpicky, but it’s really getting under my skin as I notice it happening more often.
It concerns leaving comments. Some of you have it set up where those wishing to comment must sign-in all over again – at least on your blogs.
We’re required to leave our email address, name, and website. Then, once providing this information, another prompt comes up requiring our passwords.
Personally, I find this annoying as all get-out as every day I provide all this when I sign on to my WordPress account.
Long story, short, I wish you would rethink the issue and allow for comments without having to go through the hassle.
My account is set up for anyone to leave a comment, however, it will not be published until I approve it. I believe this is the way for you to go, as well.
Well, that’s my rant for the day, but I will say this: I’m not going to go along with it any longer. If a comment requires I go through that rigmarole again, I’ll simply leave a “like” and move on.
Feel free to comment – rigmarole-free – on this mini gripe session.

I’m with you brother. I have to approve the comment too. If someone posts something inappropriate, I can also delete it. If you make it too hard, folks will just stop reading what you have to say, and then what’s the point?

I have trouble registering a hit on some bloggers ‘like’ button. Also sometimes I try to leave a comment and I must be getting same prob. as you (?). To be honest I jump through a few hoops and get there – but not always ☺️ In which case no like or no comment is the result. I will only try a few variations – sometimes though operating from my reader does the trick. Techno- phobic me. 😅

Same here, Ken, regarding the “like” button. I can “like” through the Reader, but not on the actual page. I don’t think that’s the bloggers’ fault, I think it’s a WordPress thing.
However, regarding the leaving a comment, I’m with you. There should be no reason to jump through hoops. We should just be able to write it and leave it there.
Thanks for “checking in”!

I’m pretty tech-unsavvy so I hope my settings are set up so you aren’t hassled. My gripe is some bloggers don’t have a link to their blog in their profile so it’s not always easy to check out their blog if they leave a “like.”

Hi, Tom, thanks. Your blog is fine regarding likes and comments.
Regarding the other issue, I agree. Sometimes I’ll get a like from someone, try to check out their blog, but can’t get there easily. Another little frustration.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have not gotten to the point where I cannot sift through all the comments, far from it. But making it hard to provide comments usually leads me to not leave any. I like the comments that I receive, even the negative ones. It instructs me on what is working, what is not, and when I touch a nerve (sometimes intentional? Maybe?)

Well said. I agree with all of it, especially, “making it hard to provide comments usually leads me to not leave any.” Thumbs up.

No idea how my blog is set up at all.
I hope I am not adding to your look on the first picture David.😊

Unfortunately, your new blog is set up that way. I can get back to you later and tell you how to change it. Takes less than a minute.

Sure, Crissy. Here’s what you do. Go to the menu where you’ll see the word “Settings.” Click on it, and then you’ll see the word “Discussion.” Click on that. You’ll then see a category that says, “Comment.”
The very first entry says: “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail.” Evidently, yours is clicked on (that is, it is blue). Simply click on that entry and turn it off (which will remove the blue color).
That should take care of the problem. It looks complicated, but if you follow these instructions step by step, it should work.
Thanks,
Crissy

Hi David, thanks for this, we learn something new everyday! I have changed the setting-discussion-comment box as you suggest, I am always nervous of comments but if I have the option to approve/disapprove then that gives me more confidence. Blessings!

Thank you, Mike. Glad you did that. Yeah, I allow the vast majority of comments I receive, but sometimes I must overrule. Good thing WordPress allows for that!

Oh wow, I hope my blog doesn’t do that, because if it does, I don’t know how to fix it. (Technologically challenged) That bothers me sometimes, too, although my phone makes it easy to enter my information automatically. Sometimes I have to click “like” twice before I show up on the “liked by” list. That’s annoying, but usually by the time I’m ready to comment I’m too opinionated to just let it go. 😏

P. S. Sometimes I read a long blog and can’t wait to respond to it, but when I get to the end, there’s no place to “comment” and sometimes there isn’t even a “like” button. 🤔
