Deeply Obsessed
I’m reading more and more about “the deep state” here in the U.S. According to Wikipedia:
… the term “deep state” is used in political messaging to describe the theory that there is “a hybrid association of elements of government and parts of top-level finance and industry that is effectively able to govern the United States without reference to the consent of the governed as expressed through the formal political process.
I have no problem believing that such an entity exists and has been for decades, if not longer. I also have no problem understanding why the secular world is so obsessed with it. What I can’t understand, however, is why believers are so infatuated by it.
Considering the Bible’s forecast of what awaits Planet Earth, “the deep state” is but a tropical breeze compared to a monsoon.
Modern-Day “Prophets”
Adding to the obsession of “the deep state” is the ramblings of the modern-day “prophets” – quite a few in the United Kingdom, oddly enough – who allege a flowing stream of divine revelation.
These so-called seers are almost daily reporting on visions of better days ahead, as God will use a conservative American president (they envision Trump ’24) to eviscerate “the deep state” and establish the U.S. as a bastion of righteousness and godliness.
This is entirely unbiblical.
“Deep State” Reality
That there is even such a thing as a “deep state” should come as no surprise to any believer. Though God rules over the earth, He has given to Satan a degree of authority over the unbelieving world.
Jesus confirms this in John 14:30 when He refers to Satan as “the ruler of this world.” In John 16:11, he calls Satan “the prince of this world.” In Ephesians 2:2, Paul acknowledges Satan as the “ruler of the kingdom of the air.”
With the power he has been given, it is no great feat for Satan to select a number of puppet-masters to pull the strings of the U.S. and any other nation he seeks to maneuver. How long this has been going on, I have no idea, but what does it matter? Satan does not reign over this planet, God does, and He has already told us what is coming.
The True Deep State
Far from the idealistic and utopian world to be ushered in by an American President as the modern-day “prophets” allege, a world leader will be coming onto the scene who will plunge the U.S. – and the rest of the world – into the deepest state of darkness it has ever known.
This man, the Antichrist, is called “the man of lawlessness” (2 Thessalonians 2:2) and will “oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4).
Furthermore, he will “say unheard-of things against the God of gods” (Daniel 11:36), and he will “invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood” (Daniel 11:40).
Also, the Antichrist will persecute and kill believers in the Lord Jesus Christ: “He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time” (Daniel 7:25, emphasis added).
To think that sinful America is going to be rescued from this “beast coming out of the sea” (Revelation 13:1) is absurd considering the levels of sin we have committed against our holy and righteous God. An American president as the savior? No way – and this is no criticism against the president. America’s day has passed, as judgment will soon fall hard.
The Light of Christ
So, does “the deep state” exist? I believe it does. And to this conviction, I extend a gaping yawn.
Believers are to live in the light of Christ, our mission to let the world know that there is a Savior who can save them from their dark world of sin and deliver them into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
Believers should never get caught up in that which we can’t control. Always remember that “this world in its present form is passing away” (1 Corinthians 7:31).
A wonderful paradise is coming, and I’d rather be obsessing over that Kingdom of Light than the soon-do-pass-into-oblivion “deep state.”

I agree with your yawn. The “deep state” doesn’t concern me as much as the state of men’s hearts everyday.

This is the kind of stuff that if I am not careful and focused on the word of God, that I become distracted by. Topics like the deep state and the Great Reset. I’m sure they’re real and I do my best to be prepared for whatever comes but I have to remind myself that God has already written the days and no amount of anxiety will change them.

Hi David, This is a subject that causes me continual grief. One of my sons, who I obviously love dearly and who shall remain nameless, is neck deep into the dark layers of the deep state and all of it’s numerous sub-components. According to him, because I have decided to NOT use the little time I have left, following his lead, and going down the quagmire of rabbit holes that he has already graciously identified, but I have rather decided to use the time I have left to focus on Jesus, I am now his enemy and so are people like me, and that is the way that it has to be (his words, not mine). Dove tailing into his footsteps is a daughter, who I also love dearly, and who is a Christian that exercises Biblical discernment with an eye dropper, and is quickly being drawn into the experimental experiences of the New Age/NAR flavoured, apostle and prophet directed, coming revival, where planet earth is to reclaimed from Satan through numerous dominionism related activities, by supernatural empowered signs and wonders Christians, all deemed necessary, prior to the return of Jesus. And of course, just to make it more interesting, a previous President, who shall also remain nameless, will be spear heading this glorious achievement, once he returns to power, via QAnon related disclosures. And trust me, I’ve compressed this considerably. I get a head ache just thinking about it. “Jesus, take the wheel”, is my theme song. Amazing what can change in about 10 years. If someone had of told me twenty years ago, this is where we would be today, I would not have believed them. But here we are. I keep hoping this is a bad dream but unfortunately, such is not the case. And aren’t you glad that I didn’t bring Covid19 into this equation! I couldn’t agree with your post more, but the choir loft is getting mighty thin. My hats off to you for telling it like it is. Blessings!

Excellent thoughts, David! It’s exasperating that we believers (I include myself) get wrapped around the axle regarding temporal issues and forget we’re supposed to be pilgrims and sojourners here, and ambassadors for the Lord God.

On point here brother, ‘Deep State’ fervor is very cultish, compelling so called believers to squeeze it into Biblical ideas.
Worse, the folks that Bob and I know who are immersed into it hold it higher than Biblical teachings and prophecy. They nicely patronize us as though we’re the naive ones.
