View an Example of a Chapterless Bible

A few days ago I posted a blog titled, “‘Chapterizing’ and ‘Versifying’ the Bible” in which I briefly looked at how the Bible came to have chapter breaks and verse numbers – 2 elements not in the original manuscripts.

I also wrote, “So, would we have been better off had Langton not added chapter breaks to the Bible and Stephanus the verse numbers? I don’t know, but no doubt we would have been reading the Bible differently today had chapters and verses not been added, and no doubt our perception of the Word of God would be different.”

Well, if you want to get a glimpse of what reading the Bible without chapter breaks and verse numbers are like, click the link below.

It is simply an Amazon page of, “Simple: A Chapterless, Verseless, New Testament” published in 2017. Once there, click on the “Look Inside” icon at the far left. Generously provided is an excerpt of the first 5 chapters of the Book of Matthew presented without chapter breaks or verse numbers. It reads as any other book.

You don’t have to read all 5 chapters, just enough to get an idea. If you do read some of the pages, please let us know what you think in the comments!
