Evangelical Perspective
For the most part, I support President Trump, primarily because he has stood, pretty much, on the side of biblical Christianity (see my post, “Why Evangelicals Support President Trump”).
However, I scratch my head at the segment of Christianity which views the President as God’s ordained vessel, in the same way, at least, God chose the kings and prophets of ancient Israel. Modern-day Christian “prophets” have been waxing profusely about the worldwide Christian revival President Trump will usher in, and of a new era of righteousness which will grip the earth as result of his term (or terms) in office.
I view this extreme viewpoint as absurd, hopefulness run amok, and the fear of too many people in search of the wrong Savior. In truth, President Trump has looked weak and ineffective in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the civil unrest which is sweeping the United States.
The truth is, President Trump can’t stop any of these things from happening, but that’s okay, because it’s not his fault.
Beyond Our Borders
Many conservatives and evangelicals are viewing the globe-rattling events of our day as political, as a way to assure President Trump does not capture this year’s election against Joe Biden.
But if this is the case, why is the coronavirus worldwide – a reality stretching far beyond our borders – and not exclusive to the U.S.? What is happening here is happening in India, Europe, China, and even Fiji. Without subscribing to conspiracy theories, I do believe Covid-19 is more than accidental and there is some kind of a “script” at work (though I can’t attest as to what extent).
No, the coronavirus is far, far bigger than an American phenomenon, and it has crippled the world. Here in the States, where murderous rioting is prevalent, the situation is getting worse, and there are no signs of it abating. President Trump, it seems, has done nothing to contain the rioting (outside of Washington D.C.) and not for lack of trying.
I believe President Trump and his advisors discuss these national and global upheavals daily, but they are at a loss as to how to stop them. The reason for this is not incompetence, but that President Trump – as well as all other world leaders – are helpless.
The Reason
The reason for this, I believe, is that we are nearing the end of the age, nearing it so closely, in fact, that God has allowed Satan to crank up his final plan to wrest control of Planet Earth from the Lord Jesus Christ and usher in his utopia of a one-world government led by his empowered global ruler, the Antichrist.
Don’t forget, Jesus Himself dubbed Satan “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11). The apostle Paul referred to him as “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), and the apostle John tells us plainly that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).
In other words, God has given Satan a broad measure of power over Planet Earth, and has allowed him to terrify it. The Book of Revelation tells us there is a specific time when Satan will be cast out of Heaven (12:9), and because of it, he will be “filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short” (v. 12).
That climactic time has not yet come, but Satan knows his time is getting ever shorter and that he has but a limited time in which to accomplish his Earth-usurping. I believe he is gathering his forces for his final coup attempt, and the entire world will feel the crushing weight of his assault.
Getting it Wrong
And this is why President Trump can’t stop a thing. He is not, I believe, a Christian, not supernatural, and not God’s ordained savior. He is a man voted into office trying to do his best and do what’s right, but he is no match for the supernatural powers controlling Earth’s destiny – a spiritual reality I don’t think he accepts.
If you are a Christian setting your hopes on a President Trump re-election, you’ve got it all wrong. In the face of end-time events and the fulfilling of last-days prophecy, he is as helpless as any other human being.
Rather, set your hopes and sights upon the Lord Jesus Christ, the One who will put an end to evil, make right that which has gone terribly wrong, and will establish a lasting kingdom of righteousness upon the Earth!

I agree with you and I personally would extend that to any person ~ put your trust in God, not people. Yes, you can trust people, but that unshakable Trust is best put in God alone 🙂
As an aside, not much that Trump has done has affected me, because he is so high up in the ranks, but our Governor has been much more integral in what has happened in my state. Jared Polis has been doing a good job, in my humble opinion. Colorado seems to be doing well, considering!

Hi, thank you for the insights. My ex-wife, whom I get along with well, just returned from Denver (where her daughter lives), and tells me the same thing, as does her daughter. Things seem to be going very well up there!
(Way back in 1981, my ex- and I, who lived in New Mexico at the time), had an interview just north of Colorado Springs (actually, she did, not me), and it looked for all the world she was going to get the job. She lost it at the last moment, but I came awfully close to becoming a Coloradoan!

That’s nice! I’m glad she was able to travel safely 🙂 We had some rioting in Denver, but it didn’t look nearly as bad as in other places.
I think you would have enjoyed Colorado! The weather and nature are beautiful here… except when the occasional mountain lion wanders into the neighborhood 😉 Haha

I definitely would not have wanted to be a mountain lion’s lunch! Would led to make it back there one of these days.

Good post David. Evangelicals get ecstatic when they hear a leader mention God (as Trump has in speeches) or even hold up a Bible as he did in front of St John’s Church. I do pray that he actually opens the Bible.
You’re right, Trump can’t stop anything and only God knows what will happen next!
Press on brother!
